Which graphing calculator is worth the investment?
The TI-84+ or the TI-89?

- ti-83 plus is allowed in more exams then the ti-89
- I have had a TI-89 forever now. The 84 is a great calculator, and the 89 is pretty complicated (but it is well worth it). The 89 is easily programmed, and it CAN be used on the SAT. Good luck choosing!
- without doubt the titanium 89. however, some courses will not allow you to use it. if you have the gumption, you can program the 84 to do the same things, it will be a bit more difficult however. the 89 will make math easy, perhaps so much so that you will become detached from learning.
- The 84+ is designed with algebra (high school and university) and trigonometry in mind. The 89 (which is now made in only the titanium model) is designed with calculus (high school and university) in mind. I own an 83+ and an 89 (the old model) and I rarely ever use my 83+. However, some universities have policies against the 89 simply because it's too powerful. Usually this is only in the entry-level calculus courses because you can do on the calculator what might take you minutes (or hours, for higher courses) to do with a pen and paper. I reccomentd the 89 if you plan on doing any post-high school mathematics.
- I'm about to get a TI-84 because the newer models have more memory and more functions. I'm not getting the newest model the TI-89 because they have a new feature that gives you help if you are stuck on a problem, so you aren't allowed to you them on standardized tests and on test in college, I'm a senior. plus the TI-84 is cheaper.
