I work for a private company and regularly paying my tax for last three years. This year I have redeemed my PF investment of last 3 years and I am expecting to redeem some of my mutual fund investment (past 3years) also and will be using it for personal purpose. Question about taxes on investment returns? Lets say someone has a mutual fund which they make, for example, $500 with in a month in interest and then they trades/sells shares. My question has to do with how taxing works on this. I know its subject to capital gains taxes of up to 35%, but is it also subject to federal and state tax? I'm wondering this because this could potentially add up to 70% tax rate depending on your income. Is this how it works? Thank you in advance.
How do prisoners with investment income file tax returns? I would think 1 of these 3 has to be correct. 1) A prisoner cannot collect investment income in jail, but may be able to put the money in the trust of someone else (a family member or friend). Then the other person reports the interest or capital gain income to US Treasury. 2) The prisoner is allowed to file a tax return from in prison, and therefore must do so or be punished the same as another taxpayer. 3) Another person is required to manage the prisoner's estate. How does it work? This certainly applies to white collar prisons.
What returns (in %) do you consider good in any investment or business? If you are an investor what best returns you expect to get with an investment, with the condition that you want an absolutely safe investment plan i.e. u don't want to be in any speculative investment (like stocks) where there are good profits at the same time the risk to the investment is very high.
What investment has returns of 8% interest? (would like to keep cash close to liquid)? Yesterday I watched a segment on Today a financial advisor said 6 out of 10 employeeors are no longer giving bonuses therefore we have to make our own. If we take even the smallest amount (like $79) and put it in an account that earns 8% interest you will have over $1000 in a year. WHO PAYS 8% INTEREST? My money market fund only pays 1.5% under $10,000.

What Investment: offers Liquidity, and Safe Returns? * Stocks are Too Volatile to be considered "Safe" * Treasuries, Bonds and CDs are "Not Liquid" enough * Just Holding Cash in a Money Market Account, yields "No Return" due to Future Inflation Prospects (Lost Purchasing Power) and Opportunities Lost, in either the Stock or Bond Market. So, Based on this Matrix: 1. Liquid (Cash like), 2. Safe (US Treasury Inflation Protected+ like), 3. Return (Stock like) What single - Investment offers something like this, but is not this, and is something that you would Recommend?

Looking for a low-risk 10-year investment type with returns.? From Dec 2009 to Jan 2019 (I am paying off credit cards until then), I will be saving over $750 a month so we can pay cash for a truck and 5th wheel when my wife retires at 60 (I already am retired). My credit union currently offers .75% APY, so its growth is basically negligible. I want something low-risk but offers a better return. I'm looking for investment types (T-bills, money markets, etc), that will allow me to make variable monthly contributions and allow easy access to the money when the time is right (or earlier in case of catastrophic emergency).
